Case study / Clearyst° Benchmark

Rebuilt. Migrated. Still shipping.

Clearyst° Benchmark, formerly Green Business Benchmark, certifies the sustainability work of businesses. We rebuilt the platform end to end, moved its existing customers across, and have shipped 85 releases in nine months.

A product people already relied on.

Clearyst came to us with a certification product that businesses already displayed on their websites. It had outgrown the systems underneath it. They needed a modern platform, and they needed every existing customer to arrive on it with their progress intact.

  1. 01

A business signs up and works through sustainability initiatives

  2. 02

Every completed initiative earns points toward a certification tier

  3. 03

The certificate, public profile and seal update the moment the tier changes

A certificate is a promise. The platform behind it has to keep it.

Businesses show their tier to customers, so the data, the billing and the public seal all have to be right, all the time, while the product keeps moving.

  1. 01

Moving customers without losing their history

Certified businesses had years of progress spread across older systems. We built a customer-by-customer import with a human sign-off step, so every account arrived complete and checked before it went live.

  2. 02

A certification that is always current

Tiers change as businesses complete work, and certificates renew every year with grace and lapse states. Public profiles and embeddable seals read the live state, so a seal on a customer's website is never out of date.

  3. 03

Billing that cannot get it wrong

Subscriptions, tax, card authentication and failed payments all decide whether a business stays certified. Webhooks are handled idempotently and billing emails go through a durable outbox, so no payment event is lost.

One platform, four faces.

  • React
  • .NET
  • PostgreSQL
  • Stripe
  • Azure
  • Claude
  • Business app

Onboarding, initiatives, milestones, analytics and the certificate itself, in React with a typed .NET API behind it.

  • Public profiles and seals

Server-rendered profile and verification pages built for search, plus a live seal any business can embed on its own site.

  • Admin console

Accounts, approvals, the customer import, billing support and impersonation for hands-on help.

  • AI-assisted checks

Claude reviews the evidence businesses upload for an initiative, so reviewers start from a first pass instead of a blank page.

Nine months. 85 releases.
